DIY: A White Dress turned Yellow(ish)

I got this dress from Forever21 awhile ago. It was cute and cheap, but not cheap looking (in my opinion). But I haven’t found any good opportunities to wear a white dress. So I decided to dye it. And the color YELLOW has been on my mind for awhile now. I went to Michael’s and got some yellow powder RIT dye and a bucket.
After getting all my supplies, I read on the RIT package that polyester is not a good fabric to dye, and of course the dress is 100% polyester. I decided to go ahead with it anyway because I am a risk taker and I do what I want.

I dissolved the whole box of RIT powder in 2 cups of hot water. Then I filled up this bucket halfway with hot water. I poured the dissolved RIT into the water. I wet the dress in hot water first, then submerged it into the bucket. I left it in there for about 35 minutes. I took it out and rinsed it with water until the water was clear. It is now hanging in my closet with the bucket underneath to catch the drips.

Here is a quick picture of the dress right after I took it out of the bucket. Not as bright as I had hoped, but since it’s polyester I had to lower my expectations.
More updates tomorrow!
Peace and dye,
